What is a freeroll?
A freeroll is a term that is used in online poker rooms. It refers to two things – a poker hand or a poker tournament. Usually, the ‘freeroll’ term is commonly used for online poker tournaments, where players can enter to win prizes and money without having to pay an entry fee. Many online poker rooms use freerolls to promote new features and/ or to bring in new players. Freeroll is a wonderful way for new poker players to get some experience without incurring expenses. Such tournaments are great for players who are new to the world of online poker and want to gain experience while building their bankrolls.
Freeroll Poker Hand
A freeroll poker hand is a situation during a poker game where two players on the table are drawing to try and win the entire pot. At the same time, one player’s hand is tied or similar to another player, who has no chance of winning. This situation occurs when there are just two players left on the table, but the last card has not been dealt as yet. In such a situation, the guarantee is that the pot will be divided between the two players, but since there is still a card to be drawn, it offers a chance or opportunity to win the entire pot.
When players become aware of a freeroll poker hand, they often raise the pot without risks. However, if the opposing players are unaware of their opponents’ freeroll hand, they too continue raising the pot and this can be risky for the opposing players, as they do not have a chance of winning.
Freeroll Poker Tournament
Any poker tournament that does not require players to pay an entry fee to participate in the tournament is referred to as a freeroll poker tournament. At the same time, it is important for new poker players to realise that freeroll tournaments do require some kind of payment in the form of credits or points. The prize money for the tournament does not come from the entry fees, rather it comes from the online poker company or sponsorships.
There is a reason why online poker rooms offer freeroll. Some do so to attract new poker players to participate in their poker room and get a look at the software used by the online casino. If the players are happy with what they see, they will be tempted to sign up and play for real money in the near future. Other online poker rooms offer freeroll to get more visitors to their sites, so that they can try out other online casino games. Some online casinos use freeroll tournaments to reward their members for their loyalty.
How to Qualify for Freeroll Tournaments
When the tournaments are open to new poker players, you would usually have to use your bonus or membership points to qualify. And, you can earn points when you use real money on the online casino to play games or when you deposit money into your account. It is important that you first read the online casino’s tournament policies to find out how you can qualify for such tournaments. Different online casinos have different rules for qualification and sometimes, rules can vary from one poker room to another within the site itself.
