Online Tournaments vs. Live Tournaments
Arguably the biggest poker tournament has to be the World Poker Tour, taking place every year, and which is a huge event offering insane cash prizes. The entry fee is quite expensive and most well-known players join this tournament. This tournament is best known for unknown poker players making it onto the final table. There are, however, also big online poker tournaments that differ immensely from live tournaments.
There are a few differences between playing a live tournament and playing an online one. In live Poker, you can only play one table at a time and if you lose it will be hard to find another tournament starting. The possibilities of playing different tables in online Poker are immense. The speed at which the hands are distributed increases, therefore increasing the number of decisions to be made, making you a more experienced player. Read more here.
Playing live requires more planning as you need to comply with the rules of the event, whereas online you can play 24 hours, 7 days a week, giving you the possibility of fitting Poker into your agenda in a more optimized way.
Playing live also comes with added costs, such as transport, food and location. In online Poker all you require is a desktop, or a smartphone.
There are far more distractions in online poker; during a big live tournament you’re sitting at the table focusing on just your game with no distractions whatsoever. In Online poker there’s “digital noise”; you’re tempted to open Facebook, You Tube, or other means of distraction that may harm your game.
Another difference is that during live poker you can’t expose your emotions, it is a gentleman’s game after all, and you can study and observe the physical reactions of your opponents. While playing online you’re playing on the basis of observing the game’s patterns, the time bet and the size bet.
